When trying to decide on a makeup look for your wedding or special occasion, it is a good idea to look through photographs in magazines or in a friend's wedding album beforehand to see what appeals to you (and, just as importantly, what doesn't appeal to you!). Consider the time of day your wedding/special occasion will take place and how bright or dark the natural light around you will be when most of the official photographs will be taken. You should also take into account the colours of your flowers and dresses which could influence the tones/shades of your makeup.
It is very important for your makeup artist to know how much makeup you normally wear on a day-to-day basis so that you don't feel uncomfortable on your wedding day wearing either too much makeup or not enough. Your personality should still shine through and not be altered by the makeup application, but rather be enhanced by it. The consultation before the makeup application is an important part of the process, so don't be afraid to say clearly what you want (and what you definitely don't want), and ask loads of questions about anything that concerns you. It is also important to advise your makeup artist of any allergies you may have or if your skin is particulary sensitive. At the makeup trial, it's a great idea to take a few pictures of makeup looks you like, so start collecting samples ahead of your trial date.
